FSMSSA Holds 3rd Bi-Annual Conference

The FSM Social Security Administration held its 3rd Bi-Annual Conference from February 20 through 24 on Pohnpei to address certain issues concerning its offices. The theme for the conference was "Resolving Our Differences Together, as a Team". The conference served as a time for the staff to address these issues and to come up with solutions in a unified effort in order to better the program's services to beneficiaries, employees and employers alike.
During the conference, FSMSSA staff from the four state offices as well as

the headquarters office in Pohnpei met to discuss important issues concerning the FSMSSA and its workings in an effort to optimize services currently available to the public. During the conference, the employees were also trained on the usage of the new database system that is currently being used by the headquarters and Pohnpei State offices. As a precaution against hidden bugs and errors, the headquarters and Pohnpei Branch offices were first installed with the new software. The other branch offices will get the upgrade once everything is running smoothly and all the bugs and errors, if any, are cleaned out and corrected. The new software comes with a more powerful array of tools that will allow the FSMSSA to more efficiently enter and track data, manage claims and benefits, and generate improved statistics.
During the five-day span of the conference, key presentations were made by various staff from the headquarters. These presentations focused mainly on pinpointing weaknesses in the program and allowed the staff to come up with solutions in a unified manner. Jerold Facey, the Prior Service Administrator, and Grace Kawamura, the FSMSSA Disability Examiner, traveled to Pohnpei and made presentations on their respective fields.

The conference was such a success that future ones will be modeled after it.
