SS Administrators Meet for 4th Annual Administrators’ Conference

On November 28, 2007, staff from the FSM Social Security Administration, headed by Administrator Alexander R. Narruhn, and the Republic of Palau Social Security Administration, headed by Administrator Greg Ngirmang, arrived in Majuro of the Marshall Islands for the the Freely Associated States Social Security Administrators’ 4th Annual Conference. Efforts during previous Freely Associated States Administrators’ Conferences produced a totalization agreement between the three participating nations that allowed citizens to combine quarters earned within these countries to obtain eligibility for social security benefits. Other efforts allowed for the installation of a new

and completely revamped computer system database for each of the social security systems. As hosting administrator, Saane K. Aho, of the Marshall Islands Social Security Administration, officially opened the conference with the theme “The Advancement of Soical Security Through Collective Thinking and Integrated Technology”.
Presentations were made by staff from each administration on tax collections, accounting, information technology and claims. This allowed the participating staff to pinpoint weaknesses within their respective administrations and also gave them the opportunity to share on their strengths. During the meeting, Jerry Facey from Prior Service, did an update on the program.
Software specialist responsible for the upgrade, Jill Derrickson, also made a presentation on the new database software that was recently installed for the three participating social security administrations. It was an opportunity for the staff to notify Jill of problems with the new software and to brainstorm changes and enhancements.
The conference was attended by 21 individuals including staff from the 3 partcipating social security administrations and Jill Derrickson and Jerry Facey.
