The Branch Manager for Chuuk State's Social Security Office, Danimoto "Dani" James - 62, died of medical complications on September 30, 2002.

James had served the Social Security program for over 30 years, beginning as an SS office representative during the United States Trusteeship of the Pacific Islands until the establishment of a branch office for Chuuk (formerly Truk) in 1979 where he became the Branch Manager.

He headed the office during the governmental transition from US Trust Territories to the Federated States of Micronesia. The FSM Social Security System was established in November of 1988, with James at the helm of Chuuk's Branch office. He served in that capacity until his untimely passing on September 30.

The Administrator of FSM Social Security Administration, Alexander Narruhn, said Danimoto will be sorely missed, "his time was unselfishly given to assist in any ways the numerous clients of the system."

"Dani's dedication and commitment to the program along with his vast experiences helped guide the program's progress. It was an honor and privilege to have worked with him," said Narruhn.

James was laid to rest on October 3, on his native island of Dublon. He is survived by his wife Manuelita, and their 11 children and 15 grandchildren.
