FSMSSA Software Upgraded

Back in 2003, after combined lobbying efforts by the Social Security Administrators of the FSM, ROP, and RMI, the U.S. Department of the Interior approved Grant No. PAL-98 to the three social security administrations for the purpose of upgrading their computer systems. The approval of the grant set in motion the steps leading up to August 2, 2005, when Donna White and Jill Derrickson of White Computer Services arrived in Pohnpei for the installation of an upgrade to the database system used by the FSMSSA. Beforehand, hardware upgrades had been installed to accomodate the increased power requirements of the new software.
From August 2 to 22, the representatives of White Computer Services

trained the social security staff on the usage of the new system, made cross checks and bug testing, and finally installed the upgrade.
The new software comes with a more powerful array of tools that will allow the FSMSSA to more efficiently enter and track data, manage claims and benefits, and generate improved statistics.
As a precaution against hidden bugs and errors, the headquarters and Pohnpei Branch offices were first installed with the new software. The other branch offices will get the upgrade once everything is running smoothly and all the bugs and errors, if any, are cleaned out and corrected.
