A revote was held for the upper Mortlocks VAAP on April 20, 2005 to determine the winner for the Chuuk congressional election, which was held on March 8, 2005.
Voting irregularities found in that VAAP box in election district 1 delayed the certification of the winner for the congressional seat in the FSM Congress.
The results show a total of 226 votes for incumbent candidate Henry C. Asugar and a total of 225 votes for rival candidate Peter S. Sitan. For the overall results, Asugar garnered 2, 277 votes while Sitan received a total of 2,356 votes. Sitan won the election by a total of 79 votes.
On April 22, the National Election Commissioner Bernell W. Edward officially declared Sitan as the winning candidate receiving the majority of votes cast for in election district 1 for the state of Chuuk.
Edward said candidates would have until Friday, April 29 to file a complaint with the FSM Appellate Court regarding the outcome. At press time, no such complaint had been filed.
