JOURNALISTS FROM 59 COUNTRIES GATHER IN CHINA

Beijing, China - 59 countries were represented by journalists from developing countries in a seminar for journalists hosted by the Chinese Government in Beijing at the Training Center complex for China's Radio, Film, and Television industry. Journalists from South America, Africa, the Middle East, Pacific Island countries and Asian countries gathered to hear from top media officials in the Chinese Government and to share ideas amongst themselves.

Journalist from the Pacific islands met in Xiamen to witness and to cover the Trade, Tourism, and Investment conference of South Pacific Islands before traveling to Beijing. The FSM, though not a South Pacific Island was represented there both by government leaders and media representatives. Kester James was the media representative from the National Government, John Hasimai represented Yap, and Bill Jaynes of the Kaselehlie Press represented Pohnpei.

For Pacific Island journalists the seminar began on September 6 and will end on September 25.
