FSM RECEIVES USD 1.5 MILLION IN GRANT AID FROM CHINA

February 23, 2011 Palikir, Pohnpei - Today, Secretary Lorin Robert, Department of Foreign Affairs, and Ambassador Zhang Weidong, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to the Federated States of Micronesia, signed an Agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation between the Government of FSM and the Government of PRC.

Pursuant to the Agreement, the Government of PRC will provide the Government of FSM with a grant aid of 10 Million Renminbi Yuan (approximately USD 1,519,000), to be used "for project(s) to be agreed upon between the two Governments."

Secretary Robert thanked the Ambassador and the Government of PRC for being the first to come forward with an economic and technical cooperation proposal, in answer to the country's needs highlighted during the National Economic Symposium which was held in Chuuk a few weeks ago.

Ambassador Weidong stated: "We will continue to develop our friendly and cooperative relationship to raise the standards of living for the people in this country, as we do in our country."
