The Pohnpei Public High Schools Championships was a huge success at the Pohnpei Swimming Pool, the first ever event of its kind for the State's Public High Schools. Judging by the popularity by both competitors and spectators this will become an annual event as part of the Pohnpei Public School Education Week. The events drew around twice the number of swimmers and their supporters than the Micro Games Swimming competitions last year. Schools represented at this event were PICS, MHS and NMHS, with PICS fielding two teams because of the size of the school.
Events were held over 25 and 50 meters, swum as heats and finals. Although teams had been training for the past two weeks at the Pohnpei pool, a lack of fitness of many of the competitors forced the meet into a second day, with heats swum on Monday May 4th and finals swum the following day. The events finished with the all important team relays with much cheering from all team supporters.
Results are PICS #1 - 339 points, PICS #2 - 32 points, NMHS - 189 points, MHS - 30 POINTS
A huge congratulations to all attending. Competitors, Officials and spectators.
As a footnote, a huge apology from Director of Swimming, Mike Roberts, to all our regular daily swimmers who use the pool for closing to the public two days in a row.
